The meteorological phenomena of the last period did not cause major problems in the national energy system, and the distribution operators will promptly intervene in the affected areas, announced the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.

According to a press release from the relevant ministry, a meeting of the Winter Energy Command took place on Tuesday morning, during which the stage of preparations for this period with low temperatures and special meteorological conditions was discussed, according to Agerpres.

“All the operators have assumed that they are intervening and will intervene promptly to reconnect consumers in the shortest possible time. Currently there are two medium voltage lines affected in the Brăila area, with 2,500 unsupplied users in the county and two medium voltage lines in Bacău and Iasi with problems, 610 users being without power in the area. At this moment, interventions are being made in the field for remediation. The freezing rain phenomenon of the last few days makes it difficult to intervene at high altitude, on the voltage poles.

However, we are prepared and there are no major problems at the country level. We continue to be net exporters of electricity,” said Burduja.

He pointed out that in the last two days, Romania has benefited from a wind energy production at high values, but, in the context of the severe frost, it is possible that this production will decrease. In this case, it will be compensated with the production from hydropower plants and gas and coal-based plants.

Also coal production in Valea Jiului increased by over 30%, now counting on a coal stock of almost 11,000 tons. In the course of Wednesday, the Paroşeni Thermal Power Plant will also start up, with an input of over 1,200 MWh per day into the national energy system.

“Although the weather conditions are special, at the level of the country, from the point of view of the energy system, there are no major problems. We are ready,” Sebastian Burduja said.

As far as the natural gas sector is concerned, the degree of filling at this moment of the deposits is over 80%, with a surplus of over 170 million cubic meters compared to last year.
