The Răstolița hydroelectric power plant must be put into operation this year, this being the first step in the commitment to fully capitalize on what previous generations started, wrote the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, on Facebook.
“I was at the Lotru-Ciunget hydroelectric power plant, the backbone of Romanian hydropower! It is one of the most impressive engineering achievements of Romania. Located in the heart of the Lotru Mountains, this masterpiece of Romanian hydropower is not only a symbol of technical excellence, but also a testament to the vision of those who conceived and built this energy giant. With an installed capacity of over 510 MW, 82 secondary intakes and over 150 km of underground galleries, Lotru-Ciunget was designed to fully exploit the hydropower potential of the Lotru River and a 675 km2 hydrographic basin. The figures are truly incredible. Completed in the 1970s, this hydroelectric power plant is living proof of a generation of engineers and workers who put Romania on the map of the world’s major energy projects. In the entire Lotru hydropower development, we have a total of 643 MW, almost as much as a nuclear reactor from Cernavodă! Bonus: 60 MW in pumping, to ensure an optimal flow for the Lotru-Ciunget hydroelectric power plant”, said Sebastian Burduja.
