The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, stated in Alba Iulia that for the period after April 1, 2025, when the compensation-ceiling scheme for energy tariffs expires, several simulations were made to protect the vulnerable consumer.

“We are now preparing the period after April 1. What does this mean? We did some simulations. For the Romanians who today pay 1.3 lei (per kWh – n.r.), in fact, they pay below the ceiling, you saw that the suppliers went lower, below these ceilings, the bills will most likely be lower. For the Romanians who pay this 0.68 lei, so they have a consumption below 100 kWh per month, we will find targeted measures for those who are vulnerable, those who really need support,” he said during a press conference, asked if there is a strategy after April 1, 2025, when the energy market will be liberalized, according to Agerpres.

Sebastian Burduja gave as an example the fact that for an apartment in the Primaverii district of Bucharest, which has a low consumption, it benefits from the same subsidy as for an apartment in a commune in Alba where a family with three children saves money, for to fall within 100 kWh. “What is not, however, okay and then we will do what absolutely all the states in the European Union have done. They aimed the support measure at the socio-economic level of the household. This is what the Romanians must do too,” said the minister.

He added that there will be no increases in the winter regarding Romanians’ energy bills, the compensation-ceiling scheme being valid until the spring of next year.

“So, just as today, every Romanian pays a regulated maximum price, 0.68, 1 leu, 1.3 lei, depending on the level of consumption, the same will happen this winter. So there will be no higher bills compared to last year,” said the Minister of Energy.

He added that, by the way, since he has been a minister, he has managed to keep this compensation-ceiling system, even reducing the bills.

“Since June, there has been a price reduction in gas, about 20%, and in electricity, for those who had a consumption of over 300 kWh, so those who consume a little more, also about 10-15% bills have become cheaper,” claimed Sebastian Burduja.
