Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) has published its first reporting guide according to environmental, social and governance standards (ESG) for listed companies, a guide developed with the technical assistance of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), according to a press release.
“Today, more than ever, the Bucharest Stock Exchange, like all stock exchanges around the world, must align with the global trend in which ESG criteria are increasingly important in capital allocation decisions. Today’s launch of the ESG Reporting Guide, together with our EBRD partners and sustainability consultancy Steward Redqueen, is a step forward in our commitment to encourage the development of responsible financing and sustainable financial products. The progress made in recent years by the Romanian capital market demonstrates its high potential, said Radu Hanga, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, according to Agerpres.
The stock exchange notes that the transition to green and sustainable capital depends essentially on additional and more detailed data on ESG activities to help investors make decisions. Thus, reporting has become an essential tool for measuring how companies manage climate and sustainability risks. Implementing measures to mitigate global challenges such as climate change, supply chain risks or biodiversity loss has never been more critical.
“The Bucharest Stock Exchange launched in 2020 the first ESG project on the local capital market in order to promote responsible investments and highlight the importance of ESG standards among market participants. Earlier this year, we launched the first ESG scores for nine listed companies. With the launch of the ESG Reporting Guide, the Bucharest Stock Exchange continues its efforts to support the implementation of ESG standards at the local level and to provide support to local issuers for the implementation of these standards in their own reporting. The guide provides valuable information to listed companies in order to guide them in aligning with the expectations of investors and their partners in terms of ESG reporting. We thank our partners at the EBRD and the sustainability consultancy Steward Redqueen for their support in developing this guide, which is certainly a practical and coherent resource designed to support issuers on the Bucharest Stock Exchange,” said Adrian Tănase, CEO of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
The ESG Reporting Guide for Issuers was developed in conjunction with the sustainability consulting firm Steward Redqueen, with the aim of being an essential tool for companies determined to contribute to reducing carbon emissions in Romania. The guidelines also provide clear and comparable information to investors and provide a necessary platform for alignment with future EU reporting requirements under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
