Câciu: 41% of PNRR represent investments related to EU climate objectives

A percentage of 41% of the allocation from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, i.e. 11.9 billion euros, represents investments that contribute to the fulfillment of the climate objectives of the European Union, while the contribution of the programs financed from the European Regional Development Fund and the Fund of Cohesion is 6.7 billion euros, the Minister of European Investments and Projects, Adrian Câciu, said on Tuesday.

“30% of the allocation of the European Regional Development Fund and 37% of the allocation of the Cohesion Fund, totaling 6.7 billion euros, represent the contribution of the interventions of the programs financed from these funds in the field of climate. Complementary, 41% of the allocation from the National Recovery Plan and Resilience, respectively 11.9 billion euros, represent investments that contribute to the fulfillment of the climate objectives of the Union”, said Câciu, at the launch event of the Country Report on Climate and Development for Romania of the World Bank Group, according to Agerpres.

He emphasized that in managing the Cohesion Policy 2021-2027 and the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, the ministry he leads is the most important financier of sustainable economic development in Romania and welcomed the launch of the World Bank’s country report on climate and development, “in which the national commitment is recognized and reconfirmed that the development policies of the various sectors of the national economy are and must be fully compatible with the European Union’s energy and climate targets, as well as with the climate neutrality of the economy until the year 2050 “.

Regarding the Cohesion Policy, Adrian Câciu reiterated that, through the 2021-2027 partnership agreement, Romania has undertaken to schedule appropriate interventions of funds for clean, accessible and safe energy, the transition to sustainable and intelligent mobility, construction and renovation buildings in an efficient way in terms of energy and resource use, zero pollution for an environment free of toxic substances, the conservation and restoration of ecosystems and biodiversity, but also to ensure the resilience of regions and cities to the impact of climate change, in accordance with the specific initiatives within the European Green Pact.

At the same time, the minister signaled that a fundamental element is the mobilization of industry for a clean and circular economy.
