Oltenia Energy Complex (CEO) obtained the environmental agreement for the continuation of the works in the extended license perimeter of the investment objective “Opening and commissioning of the Roşia de Jiu Quarry, Gorj County, at a capacity of 8 million tons/year of lignite,” is shown in a statement posted on the company’s website.
According to the quoted source, the agreement will allow the work front to be secured and the excavators to be placed on the upper steps, which will also contribute to the establishment of the coal stock necessary to pass the winter peak, according to Agerpres.
This environmental agreement is issued by APM Gorj and is valid for the entire period of the project.
“In order to obtain it, the company has proved that it complies with the conditions imposed by the environmental legislation. We mention that the previous agreement was canceled in October 2019, following the appeals filed by non-governmental environmental organizations. The company will make every effort that such situations, as of The Roşia de Jiu Quarry, should not repeat. Roşia de Jiu Quarry is the largest exploitation of the CEO and provides the coal needed by the employees of the Rovinari Power Plant.
“At the same time, the quarry is a component of the Restructuring and Decarbonisation Plan 2020-2026 that the CEO Energy Complex will carry out during a five-year period, with major importance in ensuring the continuity of the energy produced on coal,” the release also mentions.
