Local authorities need a sustainable transport system in accordance with the requirements of green transition and digitalization, respectively the construction of investment projects in urban mobility through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), said on Thursday, Ionel Chiriţă, the president of the Association of Romanian Cities (AOR), in an online conference, organized by the Romanian Association for Smart City (ARSC).
“Our association immediately connected with the discussion on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). In a fairly short time we managed to address this and make a document that we put on the table of the Ministry of Investment and European Projects, in which we outlined the reforms and investments that local governments in small and medium-sized cities are considering. We had an approach on the six pillars of the PNRR and we also paid special attention to social and territorial cohesion, and local communities need a sustainable transport system in line with the requirements of green transition and digitization for the implementation of transport networks. Starting from these things, we started to build investment projects and our proposal for PNRR includes investments in urban mobility with impact on local development, services of public passenger transport, including traffic decongestion,” Chiriţă said, according to Agerpres.
The AOR representative also said that for the association he leads, investments in urban regeneration are important “to allow us to build our streets, bypasses and everything that means a road”.
