The Southern gas corridor will certainly lead to the reconstruction of Ukraine, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday, according to Agerpres.
The Head of the Executive from Bucharest participated in the Trilateral Romania – Bulgaria – Greece, which took place in Varna, an event attended by representatives of the European Commission.
“We are on the second meeting, all three of us, after we had a meeting in Athens, now all three of us met again in Varna. I would very much like the next meeting to be in Romania. This time we also invited the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, but he could not come and the Minister of Energy did. And, truly, the presence of European commissioners at this meeting shows the strategic importance of the southern corridor and the vertical gas corridor. Interconnection at this moment is the secret of better services, better prices for the citizens we represent and, last but not least, this southern corridor will lead, with certainty, to the reconstruction of Ukraine”, stated Marcel Ciolacu.
The Prime Minister emphasized the fact that the Republic of Moldova has become independent from Russia in terms of gas supply.
“The Republic of Moldova, for the first time, is independent in terms of gas from the Russian Federation. Romania is independent of gas from Russia. The faster the whole of Europe is independent of the resources of the Russian Federation, the faster the war in Ukraine will be won by Ukraine”, stated Ciolacu.
He also referred to the importance of the connectivity of the western gas corridor and from there, further, through BRUA, to the Western Balkans.
At the same time, the Prime Minister of Romania emphasized the need to build a new bridge on the Danube between Giurgiu and Ruse and also the need to increase the navigation capacity on the Danube (Fast Danube project).
“Both projects, together with Commissioner Adina Vălean, we are trying to speed them up and meet the necessary deadlines,” said Ciolacu.
According to him, during the discussions at the meeting, the emphasis was also placed on the current challenges on the energy market.
