The European energy sector will undergo significant changes in the next 5 to 10 years, and Romania has the potential to become a key energy hub and one of Europe’s largest green energy suppliers, according to Ciprian Bodiu, Head of Sales at Parapet GmbH.
“I believe that in 5 to 10 years, the energy sector in Europe will look completely different. While the US and Asia have abundant natural resources, Europe lacks the resources to sustain itself. Romania, however, has great potential to become an energy hub, and we could be one of Europe’s biggest renewable energy suppliers,” Bodiu stated, at the conference “International Approach: Catalyzing Romania’s energy future”, organised by Energynomics in London.
According to a Romanian government’s plan, by 2030, Romania aims to have 8 GW of photovoltaic capacity and 8.3 GW of wind power. Currently, Romania consumes around 6 to 7.5 GW of energy. Bodiu emphasized that Europe’s independence in the future will rely on renewable energy, with hydrogen playing a key role in the transition.
In 2023, Parapet GmbH completed a photovoltaic plant integrated within a wind farm, marking the first hybridization project for the company. With operations in 15 countries, Parapet is currently involved in over 370 megawatts of renewable energy projects in Romania.
