Commercial banks in Romania are working on a mechanism for more relaxed conditions for customers, to be applied in the longer term, but at the same time the regulation of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) must be changed, said on Tuesday evening, Minister of Public Finance, Florin Cîţu.
“We have recently talked to banks. They are working on a mechanism. They are preparing not only for a period of one month or two, I think they are thinking about a mechanism that will be for a longer period. Here the regulation of the National Bank has to be changed, because after two months, if you do not pay an installment, you know very well that some costs arise, because they will be classified as bad loans and then capital must be brought in. The conditions must be relaxed and surely a solution will be found in the next period. A regulation is changing, and banks want to do a good thing that will extend over a longer period, not just for a month,” Cîţu said at Digi 24.
