The president of PNL, Florin Cîţu, declared on Tuesday that the reduction of the excise tax on fuel is no longer on the agenda of the governing coalition.
“This measure is not on the table – reducing the excise tax. (…) This measure has not been proposed, this measure is no longer on the table in the coalition,” Cîţu stated in the Parliament.
He was asked if he agreed with the measure circulated in PSD regarding the granting of a fuel subsidy to carriers.
“Every time such a measure come ups, we have to look in context, to say that if we go in this field with a subsidy, why not go in other fields with subsidies, because the price of fuel affects all Romanians and then let’s help all Romanians who go to work from morning till night and maybe can’t afford to take their car anymore. (…) I say I agree with it for the whole economy. There are no measures for a particular sector. Think that what we did for the construction sector a few years ago created problems on the labor market, it is a sector that has developed, it is true, but we do not know what the costs are for society,” explained the PNL leader, according to Agerpres .
Cîţu stressed that the investment allowance must be increased in order for the economy to recover quickly.
“PNL’s proposals are very clear – 7% of investments had to be from the beginning, it was not put, it has to be put there. Without investment you cannot have a quick recovery of the economy. We must increase the income of all Romanians. There is only one option here and I am still trying to convince my colleagues that any other option that I hear and no one has the courage to assume in the coalition (…) that we want to increase the salary only in a certain public sector or let’s just say I don’t know what other scheme – don’t work. (…) You cannot increase salaries only in a certain sector, because we will not support this,” he stated.
Another proposal of the PNL is to reduce the budget deficit through better collection, but also through better management of expenditures. “This is the signal you give to the markets and thus you will not increase interest rates, you will not increase inflation. There are measures… and you don’t have to invent the hot water. We made them, we solved them, we showed when no one thought that the economy could recover in V, remember, we can do it even now,” Florin Cîţu transmitted.
