The official estimate regarding the evolution of the economy in 2020 remains at minus 1.9% until the data of the National Forecast Commission appear, said on Tuesday the Minister of Finance, Florin Cîţu, mentioning that so far the negative scenarios have been eliminated, such as an economic decrease of 8%.
“Nobody goes minus 8% after we had economic growth of 2.7% in the first quarter. It is impossible to reach -8%. There is no estimate that goes to -8%. The European Commission, again an important thing, it kept that pessimistic estimate for Romania, but macroeconomic models work with different inputs, but at the same time, it worsened the estimates for almost all EU countries. Our Hungarian neighbors have a decrease of minus 7% for example. Not to mention developed countries in the European Union. Our official estimate remains at minus 1.9% until the National Forecast Commission appears. All we have done is to eliminate those negative scenarios,” said Florin Cîţu, quoted by Agerpres.
The Minister of Finance stressed that, in the first six months, the investments were of 16.1 billion lei. “For the first six months – and the secret is now seen in the figures: in the first six months we spent, we invested, we made payments that went into investments of 16.1 billion lei. It is the largest amount invested in the economy in the last ten years.”
