Romania’s rating outlook will return to “stable” at the next evaluation of the Fitch Ratings, if the programs we have taken into account and what we have in plan will be implemented properly, according to the Minister of Public Finances, Florin Cîţu.

In his opinion, the fact that Fitch kept the country rating is very important, because this matters when Romania applies for loans.

“The Fitch agency has kept Romania’s country rating, it is very important to say this. With all the deficit estimates, ours of 6.7%, Fitch’s higher – it is very important, because when we go out to borrow the rating is very important. Yes, it has downgraded the outlook, it has changed the outlook to the negative, I think this is happening for almost every country in the world right now, but at the same time the very important message that Fitch gave was that Romania can recover (…) We can have a recovery in ‘V.’ Well, of course they put some conditions there, which we also take into account, we look at them, but the recovery of the economy is estimated by Fitch and we can come back with the ‘stable’ outlook, I tell you, I think at the next Fitch outlook… they will change the outlook if the programs we’ve considered so far and what we have in plan for the future will be implemented properly,” Cîţu said, according to Agerpres.

Fitch has revised Romania’s rating outlook from stable to negative, amid the influence of the spread of COVID-19 virus on public finances in the coming period, the Ministry of Public Finance (MFP) reported on Saturday, April 18th.
