Companies need to think at least six months ahead

Demand for renewable energy generation facilities and equipment is increasing, supply chains are stretched to the limit, and PV specialists are in short supply. Under these conditions, companies must think about business strategies at least six months in advance, said Adrian Paraschiv, Country Manager Photomate, Huawei’s partner for Central and Eastern Europe.

“We had big challenges in the past, now we have other big ones. Demand is very high, the supply chain is stretched to the maximum, and the availability of products for short periods of time is very low, so the market will have to educate itself to design a way of working for at least six months from now. The technical support side will put more and more pressure,” said Paraschiv, during the conference “New wave of renewables”, organized by Energynomics.

The new wave of renewables represents a challenge for the vast majority of companies, because between 2012 and 2020 large green energy production projects and even residential projects “were completely absent” from Romania, and in the last two years “we see a new wave, and it’s a big wave”. If last year, globally, 1,032 TWh of photovoltaic energy were produced, in Romania this volume only reached 1.7 TWh. Romania, at the declarative level, has a plan that extends until 2030, regarding the installation of new capacities or the refurbishment of old ones in the field of renewable energy.

“We see very high growth in the residential and commercial segments, and there is talk of photovoltaic parks that will add up to tens of GW in the coming years. I am not claiming that PV is the solution to the energy crisis or to solve all the problems in the energy sector, but it is one of the solutions. The mix of energies (solar, nuclear, hydro, gas, wind) will help us overcome these situations”, added Paraschiv.

As green energy projects multiply and companies that already own such energy production units have a growing demand for solutions that allow them to use at night the energy they produce during the day, the growing need can be seen to balance production and consumption so that no losses are recorded in the area of energy generation. For example, some companies register, at certain times of the day, high production of photovoltaic energy, but the demand is low. The solution for such difficulties is represented by high-capacity storage systems for which, however, Romania does not yet have definitive legislation. “I look forward to such legislation being put up for public debate and to see what is desired,” he added.

At the same time, there are fewer and fewer specialists in the photovoltaic field, and the education system in Romania has lagged behind the evolution of technology, so many companies have ended up educating their people at work. According to Paraschiv, this is “only an emergency solution”.

“I hope that the education system will focus more on the demand in the labor market and not on abstract ideas that do not help us in the development and implementation of new technologies”, said Paraschiv, adding that Photomate has invested in staff training and is continuously hiring to meet the increased number of requests.

The conference New wave of renewables was organized by Energynomics with the support of our partners: ABB, BCR, Eaton Electric, EnergoBit, EnergoPower, Enevo Group, Phoenix Contact, Photomate, REI Group, Simtel, Volt, Wiren.
