Serban & Musneci Associates (SMA) was created in 2003, when Alex and Gemi Serban, two Romanians raised and educated in the United States, established one of the first consultancy companies in Romania activating in the public affairs segment, which aims to contribute to supporting and developing the local market of public affairs services and integrated communication, with positive effects on the general development of Romania. In 2007, the company expanded its senior team with the arrival of a new partner, Roberto Musneci, a reputed member of the Romanian business community (AmCham President for two consecutive terms, former regional VP and CEO of GlaxoSmithklein), with extensive expertize at top level in the regional and local corporate environment. In its 10 years of activity, SMA not only has managed to constantly maintain itself among the top companies of the market on which it is activating, but it has also developed and expanded the range of top-notch corporate services that is offers, while at the same time increasing and diversifying its client portfolio, which includes some of the largest American, European and worldwide multinational companies active in Romania, active in domains such as energy, pharmaceutics, telecommunications, FMCG or construction. As a significant share of the SMA client portfolio includes companies activating in the energy sector, namely domains such as the mining industry, oil & gas and renewable energy or energy production and distribution, SMA has managed to develop an in-depth understanding of the field, accumulating at the same time a high level of expertise in addressing a various area of challenges faced by its clients. In 2008, SMA supported the organization and launch of a new concept of regional forum (the Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum), organized by the prestigious American think tank The Atlantic Council, event that continues to gather political factors, the business environment and important regional and international decision-makers in the energy and economic areas.
