As the transition to green energy accelerates and electric vehicles become increasingly popular, solar panels play a key role in the process. In this context, innovation in solar technologies is crucial to support the development of a sustainable energy system, said Tamás Szentirmai, Sales Director SEE, Longi Solar Europe, at the “Energy Day” conference organised by Energynomics within the Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2025.
“The main development direction for solar technologies is to increase their efficiency. Although current technologies allow panels with an efficiency of more than 24%, it is important to note that continued progress in this field depends on ongoing research, and the implementation of advanced solutions such as tandem or Back Contact in mass production still needs more time,” he said.
Solar technologies have undergone a significant transformation in recent years. While polycrystalline and monocrystalline panels predominated in the past, there are now three new technologies competing to improve efficiency. One of the most promising is Back Contact (BC) technology, which improves light absorption and reduces current losses, leading to better panel performance.

Despite technological advances, large-scale adoption of new solar technologies remains a complex process with both production and cost challenges. However, continuous improvements in the efficiency of solar panels will, in the long term, contribute to increasing energy sustainability and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
