Romanian diplomat Cornel Feruta informed the employees of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Wednesday that he has decided to enter the race to become the next general manager of the Agency, leading the number of candidates to three on three continents, reports Reuters.
In July of this year, the IAEA Director General, Yukiya Amano, died in the context in which he was preparing to resign early due to a medical condition that caused him problems the last year. His deputy, the Romanian diplomat Cornel Feruta, is currently acting as interim director general of the IAEA and now competes for the position of full director, according to Reuters and Agerpres.
For the same position also competes Rafael Grossi, a veteran in the field of nuclear diplomacy, and currently the Argentine ambassador to the IAEA.
