Industry leaders need to find a way in which still have in mind as clear as possible the need to fight climate change, which is the biggest threat for humankind, but also find a way to pass over these challenges brought by the energy crisis and by the war in Ukraine, said Corneliu Bodea, President of Romanian Energy Center, at the Regional Approach Brussels conference, organized by Energynomics.

”Four years ago we were all talking about climate change, which was the biggest threat to humanity in the future, and the industry find it very challenging to find solutions in order to fight it. In two years, the pandemic came, and this brought several threats to our industry. First of all, it started with a decrease in consumption, without precedent, and after that it came with a growth in demand, which brought in the next issue: the energy crisis. It showed us the limits of our market design and the incredible challenges that we had to deal with, and we are still working to find solutions to keep under management this energy crisis. Now, we have a war within an area where we have our energy resources, and I’m speaking here about the EU. I am working for 25 years in this industry and I must say I am happy to live these times, not that I’m happy this is happening, but these events are unprecedented and bring me a lot of experience,” he said.

“Regional approach – we all know that East-European countries are very much dependent on fossil fuels. On gas from Russia. Then, we have this new initiative, Repower Europe, which is going to bring a new framework of rules, directives and initiatives, and at the same time, we have to keep in mind that we won’t have any way of going around this issue, which is climate change. We need to find a way in which we still have in our mind as clear as possible that we need to fight climate change, which is our biggest threat, but also find a way to pass over these challenges brought by the energy crisis, by the war,” he added.
