The tax on the pole does not bring much money to the state budget, nor does it solve the budgetary imbalance and, in addition, it brings unnecessary stress to the Romanian business environment, considering the customs duties it will face in the coming period, believes Cristian Păun, a university professor of economics.

“I consider the tax on the pole an aberration that, in this context, has neither its place nor its meaning in terms of the amount of money it could bring to the state budget. This tax has been applied in Romania before, it brought almost no money to the state budget or the amounts it brought were derisory. So, it makes no sense to stress the business environment now with a tax on the pole. If you are really worried about the situation of the business environment in Romania, as a result of the customs duties it will face in the coming period, why do you have to come and stress it even more with other taxes? It is a very bad idea. I would give up this tax, because it neither brings much money to the state budget, nor does it solve the budgetary imbalance and, in addition, it brings unnecessary and untimely stress to the business environment in Romania”, Cristian Păun declared, on Thursday, for Agerpres.

The government approved, in its meeting on Thursday, an Emergency Ordinance amending the regulations regarding the tax on special constructions.

Finance Minister Tanczos Barna stated that the Emergency Ordinance generates revenue of over one billion lei, budgeted based on the initial ordinance.
