The large renewable energy generation capacity, coupled with the small volume of battery energy storage units, creates congestion on the distribution grid. For this reason, a “total grid paralysis” is expected to occur by Easter, said Cristian Vasile, Solutions Engineer SolaX Power, at the conference “Stepping stones for the BESS technologies development”, organised by Energynomics.
“At the moment we have a lot of MW installed, very little storage, we have a lot of problems on the congestion side. Easter will come, which falls on the same day as the Catholic Easter, and a very big problem is expected, a total paralysis,” Vasile said.
He added that there is moderate demand nationwide for energy storage systems.
In this context, SolaX Power has the necessary capabilities to deliver storage systems both for individual consumers and in substations to the distributor to take surplus energy from the grid.
He added that another role of storage is to take congestion from certain areas and release it to other areas in the network.
“I believe that the solution to have the most efficient energy system is to create a virtual plant. For example, in Germany, whether small or large consumers, every piece of equipment is controlled by the dispatcher. When production is higher than it can be absorbed, a command is given to limit consumption,” Vasile said.
