Romania needs very clean flows, modernized sorting stations, not what exists today, declared the president of the Coalition for the Circular Economy, Constantin Damov.

“We need flows that are very clean, sorting stations, not what we have today. I’m sorry, but we have to modernize. Today, in the sorting area, we have to invest extremely much. You have a good machine for nothing if You give it gas. The collection must be extraordinary. Today, I see sorting stations only for paper-cardboard, for textiles, for shoes-leather. There are so many things around us… What do we do with trollers, what do we do with curtains, what do we do with umbrellas, what do we do with electronic cigarettes? We should make it possible for everyone to have a flow,” said Damov, quoted by Agerpres.

He stated that any recycled material, reintroduced into the circuit, comes with a carbon footprint reduction of at least 50%.

“All the time, waste has been treated by the Ministry of the Environment as something bad, that pollutes, that requires money and effort, it annoys us and we don’t know how to get rid of it, and we get sick, etc. When you move from the other side to the recycling area , we see that they are a resource. Know that, at the end of the circular economy effort, any material reintroduced into the circuit comes with a minimum 50% carbon footprint reduction (…) To have a quality recycling with results very good, with reintegration of the material in a new quality industrial process, we need an extraordinary collection and sorting. (…) What we want is for the flows to be very well analyzed could exist here, I saw it in Sweden recently, where the people from the plastic area got together and made a station where they collect all the plastic in the yellow bag. We say that we collected the plastic separately, but what we have there are more than 70 types of resins”, said the president of the Coalition for Circular Economy.
