There is currently a cost that is difficult for distributors to bear due to price developments and that can be very difficult to transfer to the consumer by increasing the tariff, Daniela Dărăban, executive director of the Federation of Associations of Energy Utility Companies (ACUE) said at the Energy Strategy Summit 2022.

“Due to the evolution of prices, there is currently a cost that is difficult to bear at the level of distributors. We also understand that it is a cost that is very difficult to transfer today to the consumer by increasing the tariff. However, solutions must be provided to give distributors the liquidity they need to make investments. Why? Because the distribution sector is key, both in transition and in ensuring supply security. If we fail to make the necessary investments to bring all the new capabilities, to integrate of course – and all this desire to have as many prosumers as possible – we must still think about what the market will look like – how many consumers will later be in the area of distribution, once we have more prosumers. We are preparing for the 5th phase of deregulation. We have to have a strategy, we have to see very clearly where we are going. Phase 5 of deregulation is the phase that, in the distribution area, brings the energy transition,” explained Daniela Dărăban, at the Energy Strategy Summit 2022, according to Agerpres.

According to her, we must certainly see a change in the way we approach policies in the area of regulation, distribution, transport.

“In the supply area, I hope we don’t see too many suppliers going into insolvency. I hope that the game, that is, what we wanted through liberalization, as many players as possible to offer the most competitive plans to customers – can be done in conditions that really ensure the client’s access to the best price. But in order to get there, we need to be careful once again what we do today – because if a supply/distribution sector gets into trouble that will later become increasingly difficult to manage, the impact will be on all policies and goals we have in the energy transition,” added Daniela Dărăban.
