The best 105 specialists from electricity distribution companies from all over the country, together with young students from energy profile high schools and energy distribution dispatchers, are competing for supremacy in the “Electrician’s Trophy” competition, the national phase, in Cluj Napoca, between July 8 and 12, 2024.
Distributie Energie Electrică Romania – DEER is the host of this traditional event for electricians. The Electrician’s Trophy, initiated by the Electrica company in 1977 and resumed in 1995, reached its 42nd edition this year, being the most important and far-reaching professional competition in Romania.
At the opening of the event, organized at the “Lucian Blaga” National Theater in Cluj-Napoca, Mihaela Rodica Suciu, GM of DEER, participated as speakers; Emil Boc, Mayor of Cluj-Napoca; Mr. Sándor Bende, President of the Industry and Services Committee in the Chamber of Deputies; Andreea Lambru, Executive Director of the Electrical Business Department; Anna-Maria Vasile, President of the DEER Board of Directors; Vasile Țopa, Rector of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca; Nicolae Buzea – President of the Universe Federation. Also present were Mr. Ștefăniță Munteanu, General Manager of Transelectrica, members of the Electrica and DEER Boards of Directors and the management of the two companies, representatives of the distribution companies Delgaz Grid, Distribuție Energie Oltenia, Rețele Electrice Romania and Adrem.
The national competition of the Electrician’s Trophy is attended by the winners of the phases per company, from the four electricity distribution companies in the country: Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania – DEER, Delgaz Grid (a member company of the E.ON group in Romania), Distribuție Energie Oltenia ( member company of the EVRYO Group), Rețele Electrice Romania (member company of the PPC Group), as well as Adrem Invest specialists. The competition has 9 sections, one of which is dedicated to juniors from the dual education system. Given the unprecedented development of renewable generation, especially prosumers and smaller PV plants, the mission of dispatchers has become much more complex and challenging. That is why, starting this year, a new section was introduced, dedicated to this field. Thus, the competitors present in this last phase of the Trophy will compete for: Electrician operating 110 kV/MT substations; Electrician operating the electrical distribution network, MV and LV; PRAM electrician; Electrician measuring electricity, checking measurement groups; Electrician, installation and repair of primary equipment in 110 kV/MT electrical substations; Electrician installation and repair of MV and LV distribution installations (PA, PT, LEA, LES); LES flaw detection electrician of MV and LV; Energy Distribution Dispatcher and Junior Electrician.
Each section has both theoretical (July 9), practical (July 10) and theoretical tests on July 11. Also on July 11, the winners of each section will be announced. In addition to the individual winners, the electricity distribution teams are also awarded, by accumulating the points obtained by each member of the delegation.
“The Electrician’s Trophy is one of the most important professional competitions in Romania, which is highlighted by the large number of participants, at the level of each electricity distribution company, being also the oldest competition “of the guilds” that continues today. This event is not only an opportunity to appreciate excellence in our work, but also an opportunity to celebrate the passion and dedication we all have for this industry. The world map is preparing for the start of the Paris Olympics in two weeks. We have our own Olympics: the Electrician’s Trophy.
It is an honor, a privilege, but also a great responsibility to organize this edition of the competition here, at our home, where the headquarters of DEER is: Cluj Napoca Municipality. For 3 days, Cluj becomes the “Capital” and the “heart” of Romanian energy. The best professionals from all the casts in the country enter the competition. Everything is ready! I can only wish everyone success and the best to win!,” said Mihaela Rodica Suciu, the general director of DEER.
