The development of AI places increased demands on data centre infrastructure and cooling, and prefabricated modular data centres are becoming increasingly popular due to their scalability and sustainability advantages, said Aurel Dosan, Vice President Sales, Datacor.
“Datacor’s mission is to support building owners (commercial, public, residential and industrial) in transforming their buildings into safer, smarter and more energy efficient spaces,” said Dosan, at the DigitALL 2024 conference organized by Energynomics.
Datacor has been in business for 22 years, with 140 employees and a turnover of 17.5 million euros in 2023, and anticipates 10% annual growth in data centres by 2030.
According to Dosan, the growing trends in the market right now are AI development, energy efficiency and automation. But AI requires a specific infrastructure and a lot of energy, especially since the number of internet users has doubled since 2010 and internet traffic has increased 25-fold.
“A typical Google search consumes 0.2 Wh and a ChatGPT request consumes 2.9 Wh. AI development leads to an increase in rack load, and data centre energy consumption could reach 1,000 TWh by 2030,” Dosan said.

In the EU, data centres account for about 3% of total energy consumption, and from May 2024, mandatory sustainability reporting will come into force.
