Diesel price increased each week in 2019 for a total of 9% since the beginning of the year

The upward trend of prices for car fuels sold by Petrom continues for the sixth consecutive week in the case of gasoline, and for the eighth time in 2019 for diesel. Since January 7, diesel price has risen by 8.99% and gasoline’s by over 7.5%. In the past week, gasoline and diesel grew in all eight stations monitored by energynomics.ro, reaching in each city the highest rate in 2019.

This week, the price increases are homogeneous, with variations of 0.93% or 0.94% for gasolines sold in each city we monitor, respectively 0.34% or 0.35% increase for diesels. Constanţa has the lowest price for diesel (5.65 lei/liter) and gasoline (5.31 lei/liter) among the eight monitored cities. The highest prices for diesel are to be found in Bucharest and Brasov (5.89 lei/liter), while for gasoline the most expensive cities are Braşov and Craiova (5.45 lei/liter).

Since last week, the leu strengthened against the benchmark currencies, and the price of crude oil decreased slightly.

However, in 2019, the Romanian currency declined by 2.65% against the dollar, according to the NBR exchange rate (more than 0.1 lei), while the decline against the euro is now at 1.63%.

Since the last week, crude oil prices in international markets have barely changed, with a 0.25% increase in case of WTI (near 56 dollars per barrel, today), and a 0.36% decrease in case of Brent (65 dollars per barrel, today). Since the end of 2018, the WTI crude oil price has risen by 23.34% and the Brent benchmark has risen by 23.34%.

In 2019, energynomics.ro will monitor the evolution of prices for gasoline and diesel sold at Petrom stations in eight major cities in Romania: Bucharest, Iasi, Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, Oradea, Constanta and Craiova.
