The digitalization of companies and society in general will, in the future, require a very large amount of computing power, which implies a considerable investment in data centers. They will power and play the role of energy suppliers.
“With all this digitalization, computing technology and very high computing power are needed. This means that investments in data centers will have to increase greatly. These data centers are also an important source of energy, and at some point, they will even become energy suppliers”, said Gabriel Tache, Country Sales Manager, Eaton Electric, during the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca”, organized by Energynomics.
A study conducted by the Eaton company among several companies globally revealed that only half of them are in the “execution” phase of digital transformation, while 47% are considering this approach and 3% are not involved at all in this process. “To implement digitalization in a company, you also need skills, and the most important aspect is data security”, Tache added.
From this point of view, 74% of respondents said that they are in the process of training employees, while only 22% appreciate that employees have the capabilities necessary for digital transformation.

A similar percentage (74%) of companies said they have adopted “some” digital technologies, and 77% of them expect changes related to the resources used to generate energy. More than half of the companies, namely 53%, estimate that renewable energies will play a central role.
