Digitalization can reduce the impact of unpredictable weather

Prosumers have become a major challenge for the energy sector in Romania, as they cause numerous imbalances in the grid, which, instead of reducing the price of energy, contribute to its increase. However, digitalisation can reduce electricity production costs by up to 40%, said Răzvan Rădulescu, CEO of Software Media WEBUS 4 ENERGY.

“It is no longer a secret that prosumers are the biggest energy problem in Romania, as they put the electricity grid under enormous pressure. The law allows everyone to connect to the grid and through digitisation we can become more efficient. At the moment, suppliers are bearing the financial burden and have to constantly balance the grid. Without balancing, we cannot achieve energy efficiency. Only when all these elements are aligned can we reduce 30-40% of the current energy costs in Romania,” said Rădulescu, at the conference “Digitalization and energy efficiency – Brașov 2024” organised by Energynomics and the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania.

He added that renewable energy producers earn 30-40% less because of the imbalances created in the national energy grid, but energy efficiency has to make money for the beneficiary and fairly quickly. The price of electricity is going up because all the renewable energy projects that go into production are disrupting the grid because there are not enough storage units.

According to Mr Rădulescu, those who want to pay less need to know exactly how much they are consuming, as any over-consumption or shortfall represents losses. Digitisation can reduce the impact of unpredictable weather conditions affecting the operation of photovoltaic panels, so those financial losses can be avoided. Also, Software Media WEBUS 4 ENERGY has concrete examples of projects that have succeeded in eliminating these losses in the first months of implementation.
