The Ministry of Energy is due to submit to the Government for approval next week a memorandum on extending the compensation scheme for the increase in the price of CO2 certificates, with an impact on the price of energy for energy-intensive consumers, said Secretary of State Dan Dragos Dragan.
At a government meeting at the request of the prime minister on Wednesday, he had a presentation on government measures in support of large consumers.
“At the level of the Ministry of Energy we have two support schemes for large consumers, energy-intensive consumers and consumers who have a significant consumption of electricity – and here I would refer to the exemption scheme for the payment of green certificates, a scheme that is in force since 2014, a scheme that runs until 2030. Through this scheme there are over 100 beneficiary companies and in this form they are exempted from adding a percentage of payment of green certificates in the invoices issued by suppliers between 60% and 85%. This measure has taken effect and is still being implemented within the ministry, “said Dan Dragos Dragan during the government meeting, according to Agerpres.
The second measure carried out by the Ministry of Energy is to compensate for the increase in the price of CO2 certificates, with an impact on the price of energy for energy-intensive consumers.
“This scheme was set up at the end of 2019 and is in force. The amounts for 2019 and 2020 have been paid and I can tell you that in 2019 an amount of almost 400 million lei was paid, and at the level of of 2020, an amount of 637 million lei was paid, for a number of approximately 34 beneficiaries, large enterprises in various energy-intensive sectors and through which, thanks to this aid, they managed to maintain their competitiveness and cope with the increase in energy prices. I would like to point out that for 2021, this year, we will finalize the extension of the scheme in Brussels and will already follow it up with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Environment, because we are talking about CO2 certificates, we have the memorandum we provided them, it is approved and we are going to come with it in Government,” Drăgan explained.
