Romania supports European targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions and has assumed the installation, by 2030, of 6.9 GW renewable energy power plants, said on Thursday the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, Dan Drăgan.
“Romania has assumed and supports the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 55% by 2030 and, at the same time, climate neutrality by 2050. In this regard, at the level of the Ministry of Energy, a strategy and the National Plan for Energy and Climate Change have been issued,” Drăgan said.
The strategy is in the institutional approval phase, and PNIESC will immediately follow the same procedure, he added.
“In PNIESC, we have assumed a target of 30.7% (energy from renewable sources in national consumption – e.n.) for 2030, which involves the installation of new renewable energy capacities of 6.9 GW. These capacities will be installed in this decade based on several pillars. One of them will be the adaptation of the legislative and regulatory framework, the second – the provision of important resources to market operators, the third – the increase of the capacity factor on various technologies, which will be able to bring them to the level of standing alone in the market, without help,” the ministerial official said, according to Agerpres.
He pointed out that, at the same time, the Romanian authorities are very attentive to the discussions on Taxonomy.
“In addition to renewable energy capacities, we will also need to have balancing and storage capacities. We are pleased that there is interest in new energy production capacities in Romania and we are confident that we will meet our targets,” Drăgan said.
