DRI, the DTEK Group subsidiary responsible for renewable energy projects in the EU, has taken another important step in the development of renewable energy in Romania, by connecting the Glodeni II solar park to the grid and starting to deliver energy to the national transmission operator. With Glodeni II, DRI now has three operational projects in Romania, with a total capacity of 173MW.
The Glodeni II solar park is located in Mureș County, has a capacity of 60MWp and an estimated annual production of 86.4GWh, which could cover the consumption of approximately 22,400 homes and contribute to reducing carbon emissions by 21,800 tons per year. Glodeni II is DRI’s second solar park in Romania and, together with Glodeni I, which has a capacity of 53MWp, forms one of the largest photovoltaic parks in the country.
DRI will sell 62% of the energy produced by the Glodeni I and Glodeni II solar parks to OMV Petrom S.A., the largest integrated power producer in Southeastern Europe, as part of the largest photovoltaic power purchase agreement (PPA) in Romania, signed last December. DRI is open to discussions with potential partners for the sale of renewable energy.
“2025 starts with a major success for DRI: our third project, Glodeni II, has become operational. The construction of this project was fully managed by our in-house team of experts, demonstrating operational agility and the ability to add value through extensive engineering expertise, supply chain management and construction process. This important achievement would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of all our partners, especially subcontractors and national transmission and distribution operators,” said Ivan Geliukh, CEO, DRI.
“Romania has set ambitious goals in the field of renewable energy and DRI is happy to contribute to their achievement, quickly becoming one of the main investors in the country, ready to start the construction of the third solar park, in the Bucharest region,” Geliukh added.
In addition to Glodeni I and II, DRI also operates in Romania the 60MWp wind farm in Ruginoasa, Iași County, the first wind farm built in the country in the last decade, which became operational in December 2023. In addition to Ruginoasa, Glodeni I and Glodeni II, DRI is starting the construction of its fourth project in Romania, a 126MWp photovoltaic park in Văcărești, Dâmbovița County.
In its priority markets, DRI now has a portfolio of 1.4GW of operational projects, under construction or in various stages of development.
