Rețele Electrice Muntenia, part of the PPC Group (formerly known as E-Distribuție Muntenia) is the new name of the company that manages the electricity distribution networks in Bucharest and the counties of Ilfov and Giurgiu.

This name change comes after PPC recently completed the acquisition of Enel’s Romanian operations.

PPC Group is a key energy player in South East Europe. PPC has a total installed capacity of 11.8 GW from thermal and hydro power plants as well as renewable energy installations generating in total around 20 TWh annually.

PPC Group is the leading electricity supplier in Greece and Romania, serving around 8.7 million customers in total, supplying around 40 TWh of energy and a wide range of energy products and services. For more than 70 years, PPC has been the leader of the Greek energy industry, contributing significantly to the electrification of the country.

Thanks to constant investments in the development and modernization of the electricity distribution network, E-Distribution Muntenia, now Rețele Electrice Muntenia, recorded in 2022 an average duration of unscheduled interruptions per customer/year of 77.50 minutes, while the national average was 108.25 minutes. This is the most important performance indicator for electricity distribution.

Recent investments include 7 million lei to increase the installed capacity of the Dudești transformer station in Bucharest, for the benefit of 7,700 customers. The extension of the two 110/20kV transformers allows the operator to make it more efficient both to connect new customers in the area, which is undergoing strong expansion, and to carry out extensive programmes to upgrade the medium voltage network to 20kV. These works will improve the security of supply to customers – by increasing the capacity of the network, it offers the possibility of connecting a larger number of new customers. In addition, in 2020-2022, following another investment amounting to about 8 million lei, the modernisation works of the 6kV medium voltage section of the station were also completed, allowing its integration into the remote control.

At the same time, in Giurgiu county, in Oinacu, Braniștea, Plopșoru and Daița localities, work is being done to modernize the low tension network by replacing the low voltage poles, replacing the classic conductors with insulated ones and installing meters at the property limit. Also here, work will be carried out to upgrade the 20 kV lines by moving them from overhead to underground over a distance of 6 km. Similar works are also being carried out in Clejani, Ghimpati and Valea Dragului.

This year’s works include the modernization of the low voltage network in Olteni, line upgrades in Uzunu, new low voltage injections to increase the quality of electricity distribution in Adunații Copăceni, Varlaam. In Ilfov county, in the Pantelimon – Acumulatorul area, works are being carried out to amplify and extend the 110 kV/20 kV Solex station, as part of an investment of around 10 million lei, the project’s objectives being to increase connection capacity for new consumers.

We remain close to our customers, through all communication channels available to them and we are open to any suggestions or complaints they may have. To contact the company, customers in Bucharest and the counties of Ilfov and Giurgiu can call the toll-free number 0800.070.888. The TelVerde numbers in the technical call centres are available 24/7 and can be called free of charge from anywhere in the country. Also, as part of the digitisation programme, details of the electricity supply are available on https://www.e-distributie.com/ro/intreruperi-curent.html.

For the attention of the General Manager , PPT Group

    My name is Viorica Cursaru.
In October 2023, I contacted ENEL and e=distribution and requested that my house located at Iulian Mihu 167 V, Henri Coanda Voluntari be connected to the electrical system. The initial request was rejected because of lack of complete documentation . At that time, in October 2023, the cost charged to the people in my neighborhood amounted to no more than RON 4,000.
In January 2024, after re. submission of my documentation , I was informed that the cost for the entire process, i.e authorization plus works for connection will amount to RON 20,000, an amount which is 5 time higher than the one charged in October 2023 and therefore for most of us, whose income evolves around 2,500 per months is impossible to pay.
I truly believe that my initial submission was rejected because , at the time, PPT was in the process of undertaking the managerial control of ENEL and therefore, you wanted to impose the newly established costs even to those clients who were pending a solution for the connection to the electrical system . This practice is totally unethical considering because it does not give any consideration to the principle of retroactivity.

I fully understand the mechanisms of the free market for as long as it is realistically based. However, the high cost imposed by PPT for the connection to the electrical system i, in addition to being exaggerated , does not give any chance to regular citizens to have access to the electrical system because of the high costs which are similar to those requested in Austria, for example, where the minimum salary level and minimum pension amount to EURO 2,100 and EURO 1,293 respectively.
Having in mind the costs charged at the time I submitted my initial application amounted to about RON 4,000, I kindly request to benefit from the same costs .

Thank you for your kind consideration of my request
    Best regards
    Viorica Cursaru
