Eaton is a global company operating in 175 countries. Eaton products are instrumental for power management of all kinds. In Romania, the company is present in Bucharest, with its headquarters, but also in other cities, such as Brasov, Constanta, Baia Mare, Cluj and Timisoara. The company owns two factories in Maramures and a third in Arad.
“In Romania, our main activity focuses on the electrical field. Our portfolio can cover both the power distribution from the point of production to the consumer – here we are talking about medium voltage transformers, SCADA, electric drives, frequency converters, switches, industrial automation”, said George Stoica, Product Manager, Eaton Romania, during the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Brasov”, organized by Energynomics.
“Eaton helps its customers to achieve increased energy efficiency through variable speed drives. In Romania, we estimate the systems of interest are in proportion of 70% pump and fan drives and in a smaller percentage heavy drives, which are found in the industrial area. The need for efficiency derives from the new European regulations, which promote the use of converters. Starting with 2011, the engine with a minimum efficiency of IE2 had to be used in any new project. Since 2015, the obligation to use engines of minimum IE3, between 0.75 and 7.5 kW, has been introduced, mostly the drives in buildings. In 2017, the obligation expanded for the entire range between 0.75 and 375 kW, which is mainly in the industrial area, where we find larger engines and drives. IE2 could also be used, but only with converters… All our products have been dimensioned to correspond to IE3”, Stoica added.

At the same time, UPS equipment helps in the case of critical tasks, as was the case last year, when such equipment was installed in Brasov, at a modular hospital, said Catalin Crivineanu, Sales Engineer, Eaton Romania.
“This equipment is important, when we talk about energy efficiency, in terms of cost. All UPSs are connected to battery solutions that ensure continuity of power supply when no mains voltage is present. Eaton has developed software that allows these batteries to power the network. Any standard equipment has this functionality. It helps us to become prosumers, to ensure the stability of the electricity grid, to regulate frequency,” said Crivineanu.

Batteries can then be used to generate power when there is a need. EATON UPS’s have a 97-98% efficiency, compared to the market average of 95%, and this can generate economies of scale and faster amortization of investment.
At the same time, only Eaton communications cards comply to the present cybersecurity standards, Crivineanu concluded.
The conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – the 5th year – Brașov” was organized by Energynomics, with the support of our partners ABB, Eaton România, EnelX România, Kawasaki Gas Turbines Europe, Wiren Energy.
