The European Commission aims to develop a more effective data governance system in the context of the transformation of the energy sector, moving from a unidirectional flow of energy to a bidirectional flow of energy and data, said Andrei Covatariu, independent expert and co-chair of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) working group on Digitalization in Energy.

“In the last two years we have been going through an energy crisis and good enough measures have been taken from a technical perspective that we are not going through energy rationing. Unfortunately, we are still feeling the cost paid for this balancing and it shows in inflation and reduced demand,” said Covatariu at the Energy Strategy Summit 2024, organized by Energynomics.

Recent events have prompted authorities in Brussels to make ambitious pledges that influence the EU’s decarbonization and energy transition goals, he said.
