The BRUA project will ensure Romania’s access to at least three gas sources and will connect our region to the Western European network, Economy Minister Dănuţ Andruşcă said on Thursday at the annual conference of Gas Infrastructure Europe, which takes place in Bucharest.
“We are considering strengthening at least two new sources of natural gas: deposits in the Caspian Sea region and recent discoveries from the Black Sea. In this context, interconnections are needed to allow access to these resources, which will increase the degree of energy security in the region, “the minister said.
In addition, the new pipeline – which will link Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria – will connect our region to the Western European gas grid.
“BRUA works have already begun. Romania has already begun work on the pipeline and the compressor stations within the project, which will guarantee us and other European states that we will have access to at least three energy sources. In addition, all the countries in the region will be interconnected with Western Europe. This project is a strategic one for Romania, for the Ministry of Economy and for Transgaz”, Andruşcă stressed, according to Agerpres.
According to him, the timetable for the BRUA project will be fully respected, “because this is an investment project that is too important for delays to be allowed. BRUA is an example of success. It shows us that we can make important changes”, the minister continued.
On June 4, Transgaz announced that it has begun building the first phase of BRUA pipeline, a national interest project supported by the European Commission, which will allow diversification of gas sources.
