The majority of Romanian companies (90%) have taken measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, similar to other companies in Europe, but are less likely to have improved their energy efficiency, according to new country results of the European Investment Bank Group (EIBIS) survey.
The measures taken by Romanian companies are: waste reduction, recycling, energy saving and adopting cleaner technologies.
According to national data, Romanian companies, compared to other EU companies, are more likely to have limited the amount of waste, recycled and invested in less polluting technologies, but less likely to have improved their energy efficiency, according to Agerpres.
The main conclusions for Romania of the EIB survey show that investments are 27% above pre-pandemic levels, the share of investing companies is 70%, below the EU average of 87%, the share of innovative companies in Romania is equal to the EU average, with 3 out of 10 reporting innovation activities.
Uncertainty about the future, energy costs and the lack of qualified personnel remain the main concerns for Romanian companies, the survey also shows.
“Romanian businesses are showing resilience and optimism, even amid global economic uncertainties. The EIB Group remains committed to supporting the country’s investment ambitions, ensuring that local Romanian businesses have access to the financing they need to thrive in a competitive global landscape,” said EIB Vice-President Ioannis Tsakiris.
EIBIS is an annual report based on a survey of around 13,000 firms from all EU Member States plus a sample from the United States. The main results of the survey were published in October 2024, showing that EU businesses are leading the way in investing in climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The survey results are included in the Annual Investment Report, which assesses the investment outlook for the European economy.
