In 2022, 18 innovative companies joined the EIT InnoEnergy portfolio – recognized as the leading investor in sustainable energy, supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), an institution of the European Union, and in the last quarter five new companies joined: Prime Battery Technologies, Nevomo, Empyrio, Voltaro and Coat-it.
“Given this year’s economic difficulties and the 24% decrease in funding seen in European tech overall compared to last year, the fact that we strengthened our portfolio with 18 new innovative companies in 2022 was a great achievement. Even more relevant was our support for 26 rounds of our existing portfolio in 2022.
“In Q4, we warmly welcome the addition of Prime Battery Technologies, Nevomo, Empyrio, Voltaro and Coat-it. With these new entries, our portfolios of energy storage, smart cities and buildings, circular economy, renewables and transport and mobility have expanded, enabling us to reach new markets and customers with the companies we support,” said Elena Bou, Co-Founder and Innovation Director of EIT InnoEnergy.
In November, the Romanian company Prime Batteries Technology, an innovative manufacturer and distributor of lithium-ion batteries and custom storage systems, signed an investment agreement with EIT InnoEnergy, the engine of innovation for sustainable energy supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology ( EIT). According to Eximbank, Prime Batteries Technology is the only manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries in Romania and South-Eastern Europe.
The investment formalizes the entry of EIT InnoEnergy as a shareholder of Prime Batteries Technology, which will support the company in achieving its ambition to increase annual production to 8 GWh, attracting talent and paving the way for it to become one of the success stories of the European battery value chain.
EIT InnoEnergy operates at the heart of the energy transition and is the main driver of sustainable energy innovation in the European Union, bringing the technology and skills needed to accelerate the European Green Deal and Europe’s decarbonisation goals.
Recognized worldwide as the most active investor in sustainable energy and one of the largest investors in climate technologies and renewable energy in 2020, EIT InnoEnergy supports innovations in a variety of fields. These include energy storage, transport and mobility, renewable energy and sustainable buildings and cities. Its trusted ecosystem consists of over 500 partners.
