Romanian Minister for Energy, Razvan Nicolescu, will travel to Rome this Wednesday for talks with the leadership of the energy group Enel on the sale of its operations in Romania.

The official said it would be accompanied on this visit by the general directors of Electrica and Nuclearelectrica, Daniela Lulache and Ioan Rosca, respectively.

We do not encourage anyone to submit a tender for the purchase of Dobrogea distribution

Nicolescu said on Tuesday, in a conference organized by Bursa, that the energy distribution activity is considered strategic by the Romanian state, especially in Dobrogea area, given what is happening in the East.

“I do not encourage anybody to submit an offer to purchase the electricity distribution company in Dobrogea, especially since there is already expressed an interest from Romanian state-own companies,” said Nicolescu.

Including from a militarily point of view, given the investments made in the region in recent years, Dobrogea is an area to which the Romanian state has a high sensitivity. Razvan Nicolescu expressed confidence that potential investors will react correctly to the position expressed by the Romanian state.

In a different context, Razvan Nicolescu said that in his opinion, Romanian company means any company that behaves correctly to the Romanian state, primarily through full and timely payment of taxes imposed by the authorities.

Enel, which owns a third of the energy distribution market in Romania, announced that it plans to sell some of its operations in Romania by the end of this year. Without being officially confirmed, there is information to suggest that Enel group would be in advanced negotiations with a Chinese company interested in taking over the operations now on sale.
