First month of 2016 dispayed a modified ranking for the electricity suppliers in the Romanian competitive market. The latest data provided by ANRE shows an increase in the share of small suppliers by over 30%, and in their number too. Energy Holding and Romenergy Industry didn’t made the top anymore, while RCS-RDS and RWE Energie are the new entries in the top power suppliers with a market share of more than one percent.
Electricity supply market is on fire for over 12 months. New entrants ready to take advantage of the more and more liberalized households sector are starting to make their presence felt and they gradually increase their market shares. So far, the traditional leaders stick to their strongholds and even consolidate themselves. E.ON Energie Romania climbed from 6.13% to 7.56% (+ 23%), CEZ Sales was up from 5.04% to 5.11% (+ 1.39%) and two of the Enel Group companies gathered a cumulated market share of 8.51% in January 2016, compared to 7.96% in January 2015. The most spectacular advance was made by Electrica Furnizare, which strengthened its leading position in the competitive sector with a share of 16.37%, compared to 14.59%, a year ago (+ 12.2%).
The largest percentage variation came from two suppliers relatively low weight: Axpo Energy Romania climbed to 3.85% from 2.16% (+ 78.24%), while Transenergo Com increases its presence by 73.64% to a market share of 5.73%. RCS-RDS entered the top directly on the 11th position, with a market share of 3.52%, to also confirm in the ANRE’ statistics its spectacular entrance into the electricity supply market so visible in the media in the recent months. With much less fuss, RWE Energie reach a market share of 1.64%.
Among the biggest variations, Tinmar Ind, OMV Petrom, Arelco Power and Alro which saw their market shares reduced by between 28 and 47%, in January 2016, compared to January 2015. Four suppliers which in January 2015 cumulated 7.49% of the market, have disappeared from the regulator’ reporting. In January this year, Electromagnetica, Energy Holding, Romenergy Industry, and Energy Network had each market shares below 1%.
