Romania’s national electricity consumption was of 25.7 TWh, 7.1% lower in the first half of this year (H1), compared to the same period last year, while imports were twice as high, according to a release of the National Institute of Statistics.
Consumption in the economy decreased the most, respectively by 10%, while the population used 2% more electricity, according to Agerpres. Total electricity production decreased by 11.7%, the largest reduction being in the area of hydropower plants (24%) and conventional thermal power plants (20%).
However, the production of renewable energy in wind turbines (6%) and photovoltaic panels (1.3%) increased, while the production of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant surged by 11.1%.
Energy imports have doubled during the analyzed period, reaching 3,681 TWh, while exports increased by 18% to 2,550 TWh.
