The American company Emerson has started an extensive energy efficiency program a long time ago and noticed that a significant part of the energy losses are caused by the incorrect use of equipment.
“Many problems were caused by the maintenance, in the sense that the equipment is not used correctly. For example, an office building reduced its gas consumption by 20% just by checking the automations. We have automations, but they must be constantly checked”, said Ștefan Căpîlnean, Project Manager of Electrical installations at Emerson, during the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca”, organized by Energynomics.
Emerson has around 3,500 employees in Romania, and globally, the American company has set out to reach the threshold of zero CO2 emissions on the operations side. A second objective is the elimination of polluting emissions also on the logistics side by 2045. “This is what the group has proposed at a global level,” he explained.
The process of making energy consumption more efficient began several years ago with the replacement of classic light bulbs with LED ones. As a result of this operation, the carbon footprint has been reduced. At the same time, the company has created a team responsible for sustainability that has the role of tracking the energy consumption of installations and equipment both during operating hours and when they are stopped. “We are implementing an energy treasure hunt concept. This means that we monitor our consumption during operating hours but also on standby. We did thermography of the buildings to see where the losses are and we identified many”, said Căpîlnean.
Emerson is also looking for new efficiency solutions, such as the installation of solar panels or the installation of charging stations for electric cars.
According to the data of the Ministry of Finance, last year Emerson SRL had a turnover of 1.08 billion lei, increasing by more than 12% compared to the level of 961.7 million lei in 2020. The company’s net profit increased by almost 50%, to 82.9 million lei, compared to the level of 55.9 million lei in 2020.
The “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca” conference was organized by Energynomics with the support of its partners: Eaton Electric, Elgeka-Ferfelis Romania, Enel X, EnergoBit, Kawasaki Gas Turbine Europe, MET Energy Romania, REI Group, Photomate, Volt, Wiren.
