The Mintia thermal power plant was left without personnel for maintenance and keeping the installations safe after the owner unilaterally terminated the contract with the maintenance company, the Energetica Federation announced on Tuesday.
“At this moment, the dam on the Mureş River in Mintia Sat represents an imminent danger, and failure to exploit it in safe conditions can lead to a disaster for the downstream villages, as well as an ecological disaster – in the conditions that the thermal power plant does not have authorization of operation. Clear measures were sent by the authorities, but completely ignored by the owner. The authorities of A.N. Apele Române Hunedoara, as well as those of Mureş county, gave clear instructions that the dam be monitored and exploited permanently, 24 out of 24, by to authorized personnel Considering the disasters that have happened recently, we draw the attention of the competent authorities to take the necessary measures because the owner of the thermal power plant, Mass Global Energy, totally ignores Romanian and European legislation, making a complete confusion between Romania and Iraq,” stresses the quoted source, in a statement sent to Agerpres.
Likewise, the Mal Drept Mureş slag and ash deposit and the Bejan slag and ash deposit were left without supervision, although these objectives must be permanently supervised, the Federation states.
“The electrical installations of the 6 KV (6000 KW) Mintia Thermal Power Station were left without authorized maintenance and supervision personnel – a mandatory condition for the National Energy System. We draw the attention of the competent authorities to take urgent measures to avoid major disasters. We also request the authorities local authorities to verify the company’s activity because it endangers the safety of citizens, the environment and the energy system,” the statement also reveals.
Mass Global Energy became the owner of the Mintia Thermal Power Plant at the end of last year, after, on December 27, it paid the remaining 81 million euros of the price at which it was capitalized, the Insolvency Expert company informed at the time, in as judicial administrator of the Hunedoara Energy Complex Company.
According to a press release from the insolvency company, Termocentrala Mintia was valued at 100% of its market value, i.e. the equivalent in lei of the sum of 91,236,832.87 euros, of which 10,000,000 euros were paid by the buyer as a guarantee of participation in the public auction that took place on August 26, 2022, and the rest on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
