The quality of data from the field is essential for the efficient functioning of digital platforms in the energy sector. If this data is of poor or erroneous quality, digital platforms will provide incorrect information, which can have serious consequences for the management and operation of energy grids, said Lucian Călugăr, director of electrical engineering at EnergoBit, at the DigitALL 2024 conference organized by Energynomics.
“Inconsistent data gives wrong results, and it is very important that they are correct and collected from the right sources. Also, too much data is not useful if it is not interpreted correctly by algorithms that provide operators with useful information,” he said.
Energy companies’ data and digital platforms also need to be interoperable to ensure consistency and accuracy of information, and staff using these platforms need to be highly trained.
“In 2010, we implemented the first distribution network management system in Cluj-Napoca. At EnergoBit, we have a SCADA course at the faculty in Cluj, and in the summer, students come to practice. However, we all need to invest more in schooling,” Călugăr added.
DigitALL 2024 was organized by Energynomics, in partnership with reputed organizations such as the CIO Council, with the support of our partners: Corning, Datacor, Eaton Electric, Enevo Group, Procesio, Siemens, Sixt, Vertiv.
