We continue to present the 2024 Energynomics Awards nominees of the year, with the “Energy Efficiency” section, a category supported by ProCredit Bank. This year’s five nominations demonstrate innovation, sustainability and best practices, with the potential to become relevant examples for the entire Romanian energy industry. We will discover each project’s contribution to the development of the Romanian energy industry and their economic and social impact. Only one of them will be honoured at the Gala on 4 December, but each and all the people involved in these projects deserve our respect for the positive changes brought to society. We thank all the companies and personalities who have been involved in this endeavour to shape the image of the Romanian energy industry in 2024 through its achievements!

Distributie Energie Electrica România (DEER) – „Virtual Power Plant”

DEER will implement “Virtual Power Plant”, an innovative project that transforms the electricity distribution infrastructure into an intelligent ecosystem. It enables the network to be monitored, controlled and operated in an efficient and sustainable way. The project, worth over 937,000 lei and 80% financed by the Modernisation Fund, will reduce the technological own consumption (CPT) and modernise substations, facilitating the integration of new generation and consumption capacities. The solution creates the preconditions for a more reliable and efficient electricity grid, supporting the energy transition.

Electrica – „AI-AE: Monitoring energy consumption through AI”

Electrica has launched the “AI-AE” project, an artificial intelligence-based system that monitors and optimises energy consumption in real time. The project, developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and startup Renergia, uses sensors and cloud computing to provide personalised recommendations through an interactive dashboard. The system helps to significantly reduce consumption and is initially being applied at the company’s headquarters, with potential for national expansion. The project emphasises the synergy between technology, sustainability and innovation.

Lisscom – Automation for energy efficiency at Bosch Rexroth, Ljubljana

Lisscom realised an automation and energy efficiency system for the Bosch Rexroth factory in Slovenia. The project included the design, assembly and implementation of an HVAC and BMS system for a 24,500 square metre green building. The solution, fully developed in Romania, controls over 400 sensors for ventilation, air conditioning and energy meters. The remote implementation in Brasov demonstrated Lisscom’s capabilities in delivering high quality solutions, internationally recognised by Bosch Building Automation.

Ogre AI – Artificial intelligence energy optimisation platform

Ogre AI has developed an energy management platform based on advanced artificial intelligence algorithms. It includes modules for demand forecasting, anomaly detection and optimisation of electric vehicle charging stations. The solution offers industrial customers a tool to reduce costs and increase energy efficiency, contributing to the transition to sustainable consumption. With a scalable and flexible approach, the platform is poised to become a leader in energy network management.

OMV Petrom – „Efficient Romania” (Energy Policy Group)

“Efficient Romania”, the largest private project to promote energy efficiency in buildings, run by EPG with the support of OMV Petrom, has renovated schools to nZEB (Near Zero Energy Building) standards. Since 2019, the project has included the extensive renovation of “Elie Radu” Technological High School, Liliești Secondary School and Zig-Zag Kindergarten, contributing to major energy savings and CO₂ emissions reduction. The educational campaigns associated with the project have raised awareness on energy efficiency, positioning “Efficient Romania” as a best practice model.
