Romania is not registering no problems in ensuring the energy needs from the domestic production and in regard to the imports on Monday morning, they were performed in the interest of the final consumer, it shown in a statement of the Ministry of Energy.

“Romania is not registering no problems in ensuring the energy needs from the domestic production: there are sufficient production facilities and stocks of fuel to cover the entire consumption need of the country. Romania even records available quantities for export (e.g. last night [Sunday to Monday, e.n.] Romania exported within interval three about 483 Mwh/H). The import of electricity from February 13th, 2017 registered at 9:00 a.m., was achieved through the day-ahead market, coupled with the markets in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The mechanism underlying the coupled market is meant for the social welfare of the final consumers: they must have access to the cheapest energy available”, mentions the release.

According to the Ministry of Energy, “for the mentioned interval, the amount of energy sold in Romania was at a higher price than energy which came from coupling (about 74 euro MW price in Romania, compared to approximately 71 euro MW price on the coupled day-ahead market).”

“Thus the imports performed during this time interval was one in the interest of the final consumer from Romania. We recall on this occasion, that even at the peak winter moments at which Romania recorded historical energy consumptions, our country produced about 10.000-11.000 MW/h, ensuring not only the domestic demand, but also export quantities (about 1.000–1.500 MW/h), Romania being a factor of balance in the region”, said the ministry.

At 10:00 a.m., the energy cost was 73.18 euros per MWh in Romania, Hungary and Slovakia and in the Czech Republic the price was 59.90 euros per MWh.
