EU risks losing many jobs if it does not speed up decarbonisation

Decarbonisation of the economy is progressing but at a slow pace due to low stakeholder involvement and if the EU does not radically transform its energy system, it risks losing “a lot of jobs”, said Andrei Secelean, Head of Smart Infrastructure Siemens Romania.

“There is a lot of debate about the effects of global warming, about decarbonising the energy system, industry and buildings. There are European strategies implemented in national plans and considerable funds to implement such projects. Progress is there, but we all agree that it is a bit slow compared to the targets we want. Why? I think there is not enough conviction and ownership on the part of all actors,” Secelean said at the DigitALL 2024 conference organized by Energynomics.

Even if the year 2050, seen as the zero point of entry into a new era of environmental protection, is still a long way off, the EU must waste no time in radically transforming its energy system, diversifying its high-tech offer – one that is lagging behind – and becoming more energy efficient in all economic sectors.

“Without them, we will no longer be competitive, and not in 30 years, but in the next few years, a lot of jobs will be lost. And energy efficiency solutions require a lot of technology and innovation,” Secelean said.

DigitALL 2024 was organized by Energynomics, in partnership with reputed organizations such as the CIO Council, with the support of our partners: Corning, Datacor, Eaton Electric, Enevo Group, Procesio, Siemens, Sixt, Vertiv.
