In 2023, almost 1.55 million new zero-emission cars were registered in the European Union, representing a share of 14.5% in total car registrations in EU member states, according to data published on Tuesday by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), according to Agerpres.
The highest share of zero-emission cars in total registrations was recorded in Sweden (38.6%), Denmark (36.1%) and Finland (33.8%), and the lowest in Croatia (2.6%), Slovakia (2.9%) and the Czech Republic (3.1%).
In the case of other zero-emission vehicle categories, EU Member States reported 100,817 newly registered light trucks (maximum mass up to 3.5 tonnes), 5,262 buses and coaches, 4,037 heavy trucks (maximum mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes) and 899 tractors.
While the number of new zero-emission cars registered in EU Member States has exceeded 1.5 million, this number is around 70% higher than in 2013 and 11 times higher than in 2018.
In 2023, the share of new zero-emission bus and coach registrations in total registrations of this type of public transport vehicle reached 15.3%, up from 0.5% in 2013. The share of new zero-emission light trucks registrations also reached 7.3%, while the share of new zero-emission heavy trucks and tractors registrations stood at 3.2% and 0.5%, respectively.
