Political and business leaders have recently met in Brussels for the sixth annual edition of the Romanian Energy Day, organized by the Romanian Energy Center, in collaboration with the European Parliament and with the support of the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union.
Running over two days, talks focused on renewable energy sources and the fight against energy poverty, Brussels Expres reports.
“Energy security means economic security, and the Black Sea, with its rich energy sources and the interconnected network of refineries and pipelines, it is increasingly seen by foreign companies and investors in 2017 as an economic and energy rescue solution for Europe” said Alexey Golovin, vice president of KazMunayGas International. “KMG International’s home is Romania, but our business reaches six EU member states and ten Black Sea nations. KMG International brings energy security to public and private stakeholders in Romania and in the region by offering new energy and resource-related projects that total billions of dollars for our national and industry partners,” added Golovin during the debates, as quoted by Agerpres.
In turn, Corneliu Bodea, president of the Romanian Energy Center, appreciated that the conference was “an important occasion to bring together business and industry leaders, as well as governors from the European Union and Romania and beyond, in order to address very pressing issues that we are currently facing in Central and South Eastern Europe”. “The European Union has clear energy targets, including increased energy efficiency, increased energy production in the EU and diversifying routes and supplying countries, as well as completing the internal energy market and building the missing infrastructure links. Romania and the Central and Southeast Europe region play a huge role in regional cooperation, which can help achieve these targets, and we are glad to bring key players together for these discussions”, said the Chairman of the organising association.
The event was also attended by Toma Petcu (Minister of Energy), Maros Sefkovic (Vice President of the European Commission, responsible for the Energy Union), Victor Negrescu, European Parliament, Luminiţa Odobescu (Romanian Permanent Representative to the European Union) and Mihnea Constantinescu (Ambassador, With special tasks for energy security).
