The European Union imported, in the second quarter of 2024, energy products worth 94.9 billion euros, reaching a total amount of 117.9 million tons, and compared to the similar period in 2023, imports decreased as much as value (minus 10.7%) as well as net weight (minus 9.7%), according to the data published on Monday by the European Statistics Office (Eurostat).
A slight increase, of 5.6%, was reported in the value of petroleum oils, between April and June 2024, compared to the second quarter of 2023, while the volume of petroleum oil imports decreased by 2.2%, according to Agerpres .
The value of natural gas imported in the gaseous state recorded an annualized decline of 31.4% in the second quarter of 2024, while the volume decreased by 9.5%. A similar trend is observed for liquefied natural gas (LNG), the value of imports falling by 41.2%, and the volume by 20.2%.
In the second quarter of 2024, the majority of EU imports of petroleum oils came from the United States of America (15.1%), Norway (14.1%) and Kazakhstan (11.7%). The majority of natural gas imported in gaseous state was from Norway (43.5%), Algeria (21.6%) and Russia (15.5%). Also, the US provided almost half of the EU’s liquefied natural gas imports (46%), ahead of Russia (16.8%) and Qatar (11.9%).
