Virgil Popescu, Minister of Economy, Energy and Business Environment had a working meeting yesterday with a delegation of Eximbank USA, led by the President of Eximbank USA, Kimberly Reed. This meeting was also attended by E.S. Adrian Zuckerman, US Ambassador to Bucharest and Adrian Constantin Volintiru, CEO of SNGN Romgaz, announced the Ministry of Economy and Energy (MEEMA).
“During the meeting, the support that Romania can receive to start extracting gas from the Black Sea was discussed. Romgaz is in negotiations to take over the Exxon package and, once the investments in the Black Sea are unlocked, Romania has chances to become the largest producer of gas and energy in Europe,” MEEMA officials claim.
“The president of Romgaz, Adrian Volintiru, also spoke about Romgaz’s intention to build a methanol plant. For this plan, Romgaz needs either an investor to build the plant, or a partner with whom to invest in methanol production,” says MEEMA.
Kimberly Reed stated that the intention of Exim U.S. is to support strategic investments in Romania and to provide financing lines of approximately 7 billion dollars. The president of Eximbank said that the foundations for the development of energy projects were laid by the Memorandum of Understanding with Exim U.S., signed in Washington.
“We have a good history together and we want to continue to help you in the coming months,” said Kimberly Reed. It also stated that Eximbank U.S. is ready to provide funding for other projects, but the Romanian side must apply, and if the submitted projects meet the required standards, a collaboration or agreement is signed between the parties, such as the one signed in October with Minister Virgil Popescu for Cernavoda.
During the visit to Romania, the US Eximbank delegation met on Tuesday, December 8 with CEO Nuclearelectrica, at the Cernavoda power plant, to discuss the implementation of the reactors 3 and 4 project, and on Wednesday, Kimberly Reed had meetings with Nicolae Ciucă, the interim Prime Minister, at Victoria Palace and with the Minister of Economy, Energy and Business Environment, Virgil Popescu.
