British police arrested 135 people on Monday after thousands of environmental activists from the Extinction Rebellion (XR) movement blocked the main streets and at least one bridge in central London, on the first day of global protests organized by XR, dpa informs. The same organization has blocked traffic in several capitals of the world, including Berlin, Dublin, Amsterdam or New Delhi.
A group of 23 people were arrested in London the context in which the police tried to remove a model of the Trident missile, capable of transporting nuclear warheads, which had been raised in a ‘peace blockade’ near the British Ministry of Defense, according to Agerpres.
”People are rebelling in large numbers as they realize that the time to solve problems is now, not in 2050, or even in 2025,” wrote Extinction Rebellion on Twitter, referring to the commitments of some countries on a ”net zero” level of greenhouse gas emissions.
